May Ipsy Bag

I tried the whole youtube video thing and realized its just a lot of work for someone who is basically working full time as a student, teaching, researching, etc. So, I’ve reverted back to my old ways! If you are interested in a beauty subscription, click here! Feel free to comment or message me with any questions 🙂

Nutrient Boost Eye Serum

Why You’ll Love It

  • Extra baggage? Us, too. That’s why we love this powerful eye serum that helps reduce puffiness, dryness, dark circles, and wrinkles.
  • And because we can’t resist a multitasker, we love that it also tightens and refreshes tired-looking skin.
  • Pat yourself on the back, do-gooder. It’s ethical, organic, and nontoxic.

How to Use It

Shut Down Tired-Looking Eyes in 3 Steps
  1. Place 1 drop (it’s really potent so that’s all you need!) on your fingertip.
  2. Gently tap around your under-eye area.
  3. Repeat on the other eye.

Hint: Stash it in your fridge for an extra cooling effect.

My overall thoughts:

This is probably one of the best serums I’ve used for under your eyes. A little goes a REALLY long way and if you use too much, it can come off as super oily. My best recommendation is to use it sparingly and allow enough time for the serum to absorb into the skin. Then use foundation, concealer, and/or setting powder for best results! I noticed that my under eye bags disappeared and I looked fresher and more awake after using this serum.

Arch Arrival Brow Definer in Taupe Tom

Why You’ll Love It

  • Whether you’re looking to slightly enhance your brows, or create dramatic, defined arches, this baby is for you. It’s got a pointed tip for precise application, and a flat edge to fill in sparse spots.
  • One side has a retractable pencil, the other has a built-in spoolie to make grooming stray hairs a cinch.
  • It’s long-lasting and water-resistant, just in time for beach-party season (yaaas).
  • Taupe Tom is a grey-brown shade that’s so pretty on you light to medium brunette beauties.

How to Use It

  1. Using the flat edge of the pencil, trace along the bottom line of your eyebrow.
  2. Brush hairs down, then lightly fill in the tail of the brow, focusing on sparse areas.
  3. Finish by using the spoolie to brush brows up and comb hairs into place.

My overall thoughts:

This worked a lot better than I thought! The only qualm I have about this pencil is that its very light and I’d prefer something darker. However, it did work well and I might consider getting it in a deeper shade.

Sparkle Everyday Glam Beauty Sponge

Why You’ll Love It

  • You can use it to blend cream or liquid makeup for a streak-free, airbrushed finish.
  • It not overly porous, so it doesn’t absorb too much product like some beauty sponges (aka your foundation will last you longer).
  • It’s not just for makeup—we love using it to blend moisturizer, SPF, and face oils into our skin, too.
  • It’s got a tapered, wedge tip that makes targeting small areas (like around your nose, under your eyes, and on your chin) easy peasy.

How to Use It

 To apply concealer:
  1. Dab concealer on your undereyes or any spots you want to camouflage.
  2. Blot with the narrow end of the sponge until it’s blended.

To give your skin an airbrushed appearance:

  1. Spritz the sponge with water to dampen it.
  2. Apply a bit of liquid foundation to the back of your hand.
  3. Dip the side of the sponge in it and press allover your face in a blotting motion.

To blur and blend harsh lines:

  1. Dab the damp sponge over your contour, blush, or highlighter to diffuse application lines and streaks.

My overall thoughts:

OKAY SO LISTEN this is such a soft, squishy sponge, that washes off SO EASILY! I mistakenly used the sponge before I photographed it in my picture and used it in this video, and I freaked out and went to wash it in the sink. Other beauty sponges I’ve washed have ripped, or stayed stained, or became shriveled up. But this sponge was squeaky clean after using soap/makeup remover and warm water. I was shook. Also, I love that this has a flat edge, it makes more sense for the under eye area. Love this so much and will be using for setting powder/baking from now on.

Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder

Why You’ll Love It

  • Is your skin oily? Dry? Combo? This baby’s got you. It’s made with actual Amazonian clay harvested from the banks of the Amazon river that’s great for all skin types, and helps control oil production, brighten dark spots, and balance your skin’s moisture levels.
  • Mattifying makeup, minimizing the appearance of pores, blurring imperfections, and reducing shine—there’s not much this translucent powder can’t do. It’s basically the MVP of our makeup bag.
  • It’s made up of finely-milled powders that spread easily and evenly over your skin AND prevent flashback (so no risk of washed-out selfies).
  • It’s paraben-free, so go crazy with it—it’s not bad for you.

How to Use It

3 Ways to Put Translucent Powder to Work
  1. To set your makeup: Dab a fluffy powder brush into the translucent powder. Tap off any excess. Lightly dust it over your foundation and makeup, focusing on any oily spots (like your T-zone).
  2. As a baking powder: Using a small concealer brush, swipe the powder over your under eye concealer. Wait 5-10 minutes (your body heat will help set it into place). Then, dust it away using a powder brush.
  3. To nix shine: Using a fluffy powder brush, dust it allover clean skin to blur imperfections and minimize shine.

My overall thoughts:

I’m usually picky about powders and I like that this powder is light and silky so it doesn’t give off a cakey look. However, make sure to definitely use a fluffy brush to blend things in so that it doesn’t look too light on the skin or make it look gray or ashy. I think I prefer yellow banana powder for baking instead, and may just use this lightly as a finishing powder.

Liquid Lipstick in ipsy Unzipped

Why You’ll Love It

  • Know how some matte colors can dry out your lips? Not this one. The creamy formula is made with nourishing vitamin E to help keep your lips hydrated, comfy, and soft.
  • It’s lightweight, long-lasting, and stays put for hours. We swiped it on in the AM and it lasted well-past our afternoon cup of ‘jo.
  • We teamed up with our friends at Ofra to create ipsy Unzipped, a nude-berry shade made just for ipsters like you.

How to Use It

Master Your Matte Lip Looks
  1. Using a lip brush, line your lips with this matte, nude-berry lip color to keep your edges clean and defined.
  2. Fill in your lips with lip color using the brush, or the applicator wand.
  3. Apply another coat for a glam, full-coverage effect.
  4. Blot your lips on a clean tissue to prevent color from getting on your teeth, or smudging onto the skin around your lips.

Tip: Prep with lip scrub to make sure color goes on extra smooth.

My overall thoughts:

Omg, love this so much. It not only feels like silk when you glide it onto your lips, but it actually doesn’t dry you lips out like other liquid lipsticks (like colour pop). Huge fan; but I wish the color was a little darker or bolder. Maybe I’ll look into getting other colors. I really respect this brand of makeup. OFRA has never disappointed me!

Here is the final look 🙂 Thanks for watching!!

Hi, I'm the founder of The PhDream. I'm a second year doctoral student who wasn't satisfied with just sitting behind a desk and writing papers. While my research may have an indirect impact, I wanted to engage more directly with the community and provide a platform to discuss neglected and sensitive issues. Along with that, I try to stay sane in my program by stress baking, glamming up even when I'm down, and sharing my dad-joke captions on the gram -- if only that creativity could translate into my research... Anyways, I'm always looking for contributors, collaborations, and people to eat my zelicious creations, so don't hesitate to reach out or follow me @ZuniJilani :)
